Words from a man with passion about online educational collaboration

Science education and the world as we don’t yet know it

general rant

Yesterday’s Observer newspaper (01 July 2007) ran a major article looking at why we seem content to be so ignorant of science. It made sobering reading, particularly in view of the challenges facing us through effects climate change. The fact that we are facing unforeseen problems was really driven home to me when I watched the short video, ‘Did you know’, on YouTube. This is tremendous and should be compulsory viewing for anyone involved in educational policy or delivery. The video is linkied to a wiki, Shifthappens. The video and the wiki are, as the authors acknowledge, american-centric, but they also recognise that the issues that are raised are global and they invite global participation. The wiki is designed to provide a little more background on the Did You Know? presentation and connects users with some resources to learn more about the shifts that are occurring in our world and their implications for school and higher education.
